How Do I tell a good ear candle from a "cheap" ear candle?
A good ear candle is NOT determined by it's size. It is determined by it's "BURN TIME".
Generally, the longer a candle burns, the better results you will get. 8-10 minutes is recommended. Our candles have a TRUE 8-10 minute burn time as we wrap most of the fabric at the top of the candle instead of the cone.
Don't be misled by manufacturers who claim to have 10-15 minutes of burn time. In most cases they are counting from tip to end. You will NEVER use the complete candle (only about 3/4).

Ear Candling is a holistic remedy which has been used successfully for thousands of years, but, "scientific method" can't prove how or why it works. Our society accepts the "scientific method" as a basis of credibility. Incredibly, the "scientific method" can't prove why the bumblebee flys!
Ear Candling works. . . .
|
To Begin Ear Candling You Will Need:
A person to assist you
A paper plate
A towel
A container of water
A pair of scissors
Hydrogen Peroxide
Cotton swabs for cleaning inner surface of OUTER ear
2-6 ear candles
A good Ear Oil
Make an opening in the plate large enough for the ear cone to fit through. Put the small end of the ear cone
through the plate, making certain the opening of the candle is not bent or pressed shut. Lie on your side. Light
the big end of the candle. Wait to see smoke come through the small end, and then seat the ear candle into
the ear.
Note: If at any time the heat from the candle is uncomfortable STOP IMMEDIATELY! A proper
candling session should be warm, comfortable and pain free. Excessive heat could be due to improper
placement of the candle, allergic reaction, failure to let the smoke come down the tube before you seat the
candle, or a leaky candle.
Leakage of smoke around the ear indicates improper positioning of the ear candle. Simply adjust the position
of the ear candle until no smoke appears. Let the ear candle burn 3/4 of it's length, being careful not to let the
flame touch the plate. Extinguish the flame into the container of water. Do not attempt to blow the flame out.
Swab the outer ear with hydrogen peroxide to remove some of the powder residue created as the ear candle
burns down.
Many people need to use a number of ear candles to obtain desired results.
Do use common sense and be very careful with the flame. The user of this product accepts full responsibility.
Manufacturers and sellers are not responsible for any accidents or results of misuse of ear candles. We know
you will be most pleased with the results of properly using ear candles.
Ear Candle Questions and Answers
Individual results may vary.
Question: Is ear candling a scam?
If the ear candles you have used before were made from paraffin and someone told you all the "gunk" left in
the candle afterwards was from your ear, then YES, you were scammed. From what we know, Ear candling
dates back to at least Ancient Egypt. There are variations of ear candling used all over the globe. It is
recognized in Germany and other countries as a bona fide medical treatment. In our modern day, we are
governed by the "scientific method". Anything that can't be studied by this method is considered a "scam",
and great efforts are made to discredit it. Of course, the "scientific method" can't explain why the
bumble bee can fly! Ancient natural remedies don't cost much, so pharmaceuticals and Doctors won't make
a fortune from researching them, therefore, no one will pay for the studies to help the "scientific method"
realize a universal conclusion regarding ear candling. It's easier for Doctors to call it a scam, than lose
patients to alternative remedies.
Question: Which is the best kind of ear candle to buy?
Well. . . Ours of course! DO NOT USE EAR CANDLES MADE OF PARAFFIN. Beware of the Paraffin
Scam! Paraffin leaves lots of "gunk" (residue) in the bottom of the candle which many people believe to be
ear wax. Paraffin "gunk" is, unfortunately, one of the biggest scams being used to shock people into buying
ear candles. With our beeswax soy wax blend, you get a true result in your candling session because there is
virtually no residue from the candle! We at EarCandles.net have zero tolerance for those who promote
paraffin "gunk", "wicking action", "chimney effect", "vacuum", or any related terms in their ear candling
practices or presentations. These are scams designed to trap the ignorant. For the record, when I began
using ear candles in the 90's I too was taught "all that gunk" was from the ear and the ear candle "sucked" all
that wax out. I have since learned differently and am more empowered by the wellness effects of ear candling
than ever before. A remedy that is thousands of years old, has proven the "test of time" I hope you enjoy
your improved, scam free and environmentally friendly candles.
At the same time, one must remember we are dealing with natural materials, which, by their very nature, will
never be 100% predictable.
Question: What's the big deal about soy wax? Why use beeswax or herbal ear candles?
In our efforts to promote "green living" and ecological responsibility, we use very little packaging (just enough
to protect the candles) and we DO NOT use paraffin (aka: food grade, cheese grade, gulf, candle); instead we
use a more expensive beeswax / soy wax blend in the crafting of our ear candles. Soy wax leaves far less
residue inside the candle than traditional paraffin, thus the candles clog less, allowing more warmth and
cleaner smoke to enter the ear canal to aid in softening ear pain and excess wax in the ear. With our
beeswax soy wax blend, you get a true result in your candling session because there is virtually no residue
from the candle! Beeswax is exceptional! Exceptionally expensive by itself. Both soy and beeswax are
renewable sources for wax and burn completely. HOWEVER, "100% beeswax", "essential oils" , "herb
infused" are all marketing hype other companies use to charge you more for their product! It's not the
material, length, or even the wax that matters most. . .it's the BURN TIME. A good ear candle will burn 8-10
minutes.
Question: Do ear candles really work?
Responses from users indicate ear candles are effective. There are frequent reports of relief from ear wax
build up, ear pain, hearing problems, ringing in the ears, sinus problems and headaches. HOWEVER, ear
candles do not help you or your spouse with "selective" hearing loss! LOL
Question: Is all the wax remaining in the unused portion of the ear candle from my ear?
No. If your ear candle is dipped in paraffin (ours are NOT!) 98% of the wax residue is from the ear candle. The
most important thing to notice after ear candling is how good your ears feel! If you are using a paraffin blend
candle and you want to know which wax is which, let the candle cool. After it has cooled, squeeze the wax. If it
is squishy, it is mixed with ear wax from your ear. If it is hard, you had very little ear wax come out. Consider
repeating the process.
Question: How often can ear candles be used?
It takes the ears about 24 hours to replace their protective coating of wax if it has been removed. Obviously,
using ear candles every day would not be advisable. Common sense is the determining factor. We recommend
candling every 3-6 months. During cold, flu and allergy season you can candle weekly.
Question: Is there a medical reason that ear candles should not be used?
They should not be used if the ear drum is perforated, if there are tubes in the ear, or if you have any rash or
open sores/wounds in or around the outer ear. Ear Candles will help with ear ache pain, but will NOT reduce
infection often associated with ear aches.
Question: Do ear candles always work?
No. Each person is an individual, so if ear wax is severely impacted and has been untreated for a long time,
ear candles may not immediately give desired results. Again, use common sense and ear candling will be a
great experience!
Question: I am finding no wax in the candle after I cut it open. Am I doing something wrong?
No (if you are using one of our candles). If you are using a paraffin based ear candle, you might not have an
air-tight seal around the ear. There should be NO smoke coming out the bottom. Or you might have the ear
candle against the ear canal - move it SLIGHTLY to another position - eventually you should be able to hear
crackling sounds as the candle dries up moisture in and around the ear.
Question: What is the best position to ear candle ?
Lying down. BUT--it's the position of the head that matters.
The tapered design of the tip is the important feature that ensures a snug fit in any ear to prevent smoke
leakage. There's only one correct placement of the cone to the ear - the same way a drinking straw goes into
a narrow necked bottle - straight in.
When one lies down on their side with their head on a pillow in the normal position, there's actually an upward
angle from the neck/shoulder up to the top of the head. This causes the ear opening to point more toward the
shoulder than toward the ceiling.
If a cone is put into place at this angle, it's mostly horizontal and the fire will naturally go straight up, at a
severe angle to the cone. This increases the size and intensity of the fire, which melts the wax out of the fabric
and can cause it to drip.
To correct this, lie down on your side with a pillow bunched or rolled up so that your head can go up and over
(this is actually quite comfortable). Don't light the candle yet, but insert it to fine-tune the position of the head.
Reposition the head until the candle is pointing mostly toward the ceiling.
A slight angle is ok, as long as the fire encircles the cone and the ash stack. When it is seated in the ear
snugly, the fire will quickly reduce to a small size, and it will burn slowly without melting the wax out of the
fabric.
Question: Why do some ear candles drip?
There's a few reasons it can happen
~ Not airtight - The more air feeding the fire, the bigger and hotter the fire gets, which can melt the wax out of
the fabric.
~ Draft in the room - Any significant air movement in the room, such as a ceiling fan or a breeze through
an open window, will disturb the flame and prevent it from rising straight up and away from the cone.
The flame will be directed downward, which can melt the wax out of the fabric.
~ Incorrect position - the more it's angled instead of straight up, the bigger and hotter the fire, which can
melt the wax out of the fabric
Question: What do I do if some of the residue from the ear candle gets in the ear?
You can expect the possibility of this happening to increase if you use paraffin based ear candles. To remove
it, use a Q-Tip moistened with olive oil or a good ear oil, and gently touch the residue, which seems to pick it
right up, being careful not to push it further inside. After removing all you can see at the opening, Use another
moistened Q-Tip in a swirling motion, rolling it between the fingertips, while inserting it in very small increments
and sweeping out to pull out any remaining residue. This will not be a problem with 100% beeswax ear
candles or with our exclusive beeswax / soy wax blend.
Keep in mind that many have reported all sorts of things ending up in the ear... dirt, dust, sand, along with
small flying insects, etc. The ear naturally works on its own to expel foreign materials.
Question: What about the powder that comes out of the ear candle?
If the correct amount of wax is applied to the ear candle, the fabric and wax will both burn at the same rate,
with no dripping. Most quality candles will produce powder. Our soy wax / beeswax blend will produce a
minimal amount of powder but the tip will not get clogged like paraffin candles.
Any ear candle containing beeswax will produce a larger accumulation of powder residue than plain paraffin.
Also, the properties of the beeswax will vary due to whatever the bees are feeding on at the time, which will
effect the amount of the powder as well. If you are using a paraffin or a paraffin / beeswax blend ear candle,
stopping a few times to clear the tip with a toothpick and to clear out the cone will reduce the amount of
powder to be dealt with.
Question: There was not as much ear wax in the candle as I had expected there to be.
GOOD! That means you are NOT using paraffin ear candles! Ear Candling should be used as maintenance
rather than for repair. Using it as maintenance keeps you out of the Doctor's office! The candling process
also lets the individual achieve a sense of clarity. I always ask my clients to "come in for a landing" after they
have been candled. I ask them to envision the landing gauge from an airplane. Once they sit up from being
candled, are they coming in straight, or are they feeling tipped to one side or the other? If one side (wing so
to speak) is heavier than the other, they should candle that ear again. Balance is achieved when they come in
straight for their landing.
Question: Can I do ear candling on my own?
NO. Not under any circumstances. An observer is essential to have proper positioning of the ear candle and
for protection. At the very least, they are essential to make sure you stay awake!
Question: Do I use ear candles for ITCHY EARS?:
No. Itchy ears might be caused by chemicals in your shampoo. Rinse your ears thoroughly each time you
shampoo. If that doesn't work, try switching to a natural shampoo with no Sodium Laurel Sulphate (Ammonium
Laurel Sulphate is not nearly as toxic).
ALSO, there is a fungus that grows in the ear, which loves the humid climates in our southern states. Take a
q-tip and swab the outer ear twice daily with brown vinegar (apple cider vinegar). That should cure it within
24-28 hours.
